Based in Ayrshire, Scotland, Ayrodynamic is one of Scotland’s largest multi-sport clubs. The club has over 100 members of all abilities ranging from novices just starting in triathlon/duathlon or those who are merely training to improve fitness to Scottish champions competing at national and international level. In addition, the club has a wide variety of members of both sexes from Juvenile to Vintage age groups – in fact, family memberships are positively encouraged.

Ayrodynamic has many regular training sessions with qualified and experienced coaches. The club also organises several races throughout the season, details of which can be found in the ‘Club Races’ tab.

New members are always welcome – simply drop in to any of our training nights (‘Training’ tab) or contact a committee member (‘Contact us’ tab).

Memberships are managed through Entry Central at http://www.entrycentral.com/ayrodynamic.

  1. Hi i am a member of Ayr Seaforth. I have a dream to do an iron man someday and thought this might be the place to start. Realistically i’d do it in 2016 as i am not the best swimmer, have never done a triathlon, use a bike rarely however i am a reasonable runner. I am looking for some advice as to whether this is a ridiculous time frame or your thoughts etc?

    Thanks

    Craig

Not unrealistic at all. I did my first (and last!) IM last year in my 50th year (20+ years of triathlon). You just have to apply yourself and appreciate that it will take a lot of mental & physical sacrifice to be in the right shape come race day. I’d never even cycled 100 miles until last year. Come down to Troon on a Monday night and see what we’re about and you’ll get lots of advice on equipment/training. There’s a group starting to discuss what IM they’re going to do in 2016 so you might find that you’ll have no shortage of training partners. It’s a rare beast that comes into triathlon excelling at all 3 disciplines so don’t worry that your expertise is only in running.

Thanks Steve much appreciated. I have been running for 5 and a half years and have always wanted to do an IM at the age of 32 i feel there is no better time to start preparing for this.

Hi, I’m looking to do my first ever open water swim at the aberfeldy half iron man august 2015. Would this club suit me in terms of building me up to this? I have never swam in open water and certainly not for speed. I’m usually a easy water swimmer but would need/like to do front crawl? Thanks Sandra

    Steve White says:

Yes – many of our members compete at Aberfeldy 1/2 Ironman and IM 70.3./full IM abroad too. We’re coming to the end of our open water season but you’ve now got all winter to get your swimming technique perfected in the pool before we pick it up again in May. We’d prefer it if you could build yourself up to a comfortable 200m freestyle before joining our sessions.
Best thing to do is come along to Troon on a Monday night and have a look/chat with our coaches and decide your course from there.

Hi, I am looking to get into tri and have considered joining a club. I run and cycle at the moment but need to work on my freestyle. Am doing the Great Scottish run half on 5 Oct and am looking to get seriously stuck into the swimming after that. I have read your post from 02/09/14 and taken on board what you have said.

hi i am looking into doing a triathlon, i can run no problems and can cycle ok aswel ive been doing spin classes at my local gym, but i can only freestyle swim about 5 length of my local pool without stopping, my question is if i continue to practice swimming will i be able to go further easier or basically can you improve on swimming?

    • Avatar Steve White
      Steve White says:

Yes, swimming is largely technique driven. Improve that under supervision of the club coaches.

    Hi,
i have now joined the club but could you advise cycle training still leaves Monkton Cross this saturday @0930 and running Training leaves Prestwick Pool on Sunday @1500

    Thanks, Matt.

    • Avatar Steve White
      Steve White says:

Sat 0930 is still good for cycling. There will be many members using the open water swimming session on Sunday through Spring/Summer pre-Ironman so this run session might not happen this year.

I am looking to join the club next month , i have already booked up to compete in the sprint triathlon (my first triathlon) at end of June, i notice on the booking form that you must make yourself available to marshal at the race, this is something i would have no problem with but had booked the race prior to thinking about joining , do i need to cancel my entry to join
Also is it only the troon swimming sessions that are coached
    thanks
    Neil

      1. The form states that members must ‘provide a marshal’ if they want to compete in a club race. Generally this means that an athlete’s family member or friend will marshal so if you can arrange that then there’s no need to worry about your entry.
      2. Yes, both the Troon pool sessions on a Monday are the only coached swim sessions.

Hi, I’m currently training for my first triathlon. I live in Wales but am working in Ayr during June. I was wondering if you could advise on any good safe areas for open water swim training?
    Thanks,

Our members tend to use Bookers pond near Irvine. Search for Ayrodynamic on Facebook and then get in touch when you’re here.

Thanks Steve. Can you swim along the coast near to Ayr or are there currents?

There are some hardy souls who sea swim along the beach at Prestwick, but primarily we use a freshwater lagoon.

    Hello

I am living in the area (Kilwinning) for the summer, I was wondering if I could join until October? I am looking to compete in some sprint distance events, I did 2 last summer and am capable in all the disciplines.

What is the best action to take?

    Thanks

Thanks for your message. Our membership runs from Jan – Dec and is £20 for adults. You would be very welcome to join us. The form is at the top of this page. You can complete it and post to me with payment or bring it along on the Monday night swim session in a Troon and give it to me or Joyce. Thanks, Faye
